The fostering experience

The Dancing Cat seeks to create a great experience  for our foster parents! We want them to: 

  • Enjoy the experience. 

  • Share their experience with friends.  

  • Foster again! 

This all translates to saving more lives.

The Foster Coordinator

  • Interviews new foster families

  • Is the main point of contact for the foster  parent. 

  • Guides the foster parent through the fostering  process. 

  • Gets answers to questions the foster parent may  have. 

  • Arranges adoption meet & greets with our Adoption Counselors. 

  • Is the key to our success!

Initial Responsibilities: Logistics

  • Arranging for foster to pick up all needed supplies ahead of their cat’s arrival.

  • Arranging for delivery of the cat to foster family (coordinate with our transport volunteers).

Supplies include:

  • Dry and wet food 

  • Toys 

  • Scratcher 

  • Litter box, litter, scoop and bags  

  • Dewormer as needed

 

Other Responsibilities: Collecting Photos

Great photos get our cats adopted!  

Encourage foster families to send high-quality photos of their cats.

We have several volunteer photographers  who will work their magic to show off our cats in the best light.  

Foster coordinators arrange for photographer visits with foster families.

Send your Foster Parent a link to our  Cat Foster Questionnaire

Answers to these questions will be used  to develop online profiles for our cats.

Ask your foster parent to answer the survey as completely as possible to  get the most information for our social media team.

Other Responsibilities: Networking

Encourage foster parents to network their foster cat through their own channels: 

  • Social media (personal Facebook, Twitter,  Instagram)

  • At work (online bulletin boards) 

  • In their neighborhoods (NextDoor)

 

Other Responsibilities: Monitoring Health and Wellness

Foster coordinators are responsible for checking in with fosters who have cats with medical condition and providing up-to-date information to Vet Services volunteers.

We have a lot of in-house medications that help us control expenses. All medical expenses must be pre-approved.

Experience desired

Previous fostering experience is preferred. We seek to make fostering a great experience, so you must have customer service and organizational skills, along with strong communication skills. Must also be comfortable with software such as Google Drive, Excel, Dropbox, and be willing to learn our software tools. Reliable Internet access and ability send and receive text messages are also important.

The number of hours varies, but in general Foster Coordinators will need 8-10 hours per week to devote to this position.
