Adoptions

Q: We fell in love with a cat at The Dancing Cat, can we take her/him home today?

A. When you fall in love there is an online adoption application to fill out that will be reviewed by The Dancing Cat's adoption counselors. If there seems to be potential for a good match with the cat you are interested in an interview will be scheduled. Once adoptions are approved, home delivery will be scheduled.

Q. What are the adoption procedures?

A. Our adoption counselors make all efforts to assure the match is best for you and for the cat and have designed a thorough process to facilitate successful adoptions, more information can be found here. The Dancing Cat reserves the right to review, approve or deny an adoption.

Q. What are the adoption fees?

A. Adoption fees range from $80 to $155, depending on the age of the cat.

Q. Will you deliver our new pet to us?

A. Yes! We have a transport team that will bring your new family member to your home

Q. Can I place a hold on a cat?

A. Adoptions of The Dancing Cat's felines are based on best fit rather than first come/first served. We can't place a hold on any of our cats.

Q. Where do your cats come from?

A. Our feline guests primarily come from the San Jose Animal Care Center. All of the cats are unique and special individuals who are looking for wonderful forever homes and have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated.

Q. Why do you only have adult cats at the lounge? We want kittens!

A. Adult cats can really struggle in the shelter environment and this prevents them from showing their true nature to potential adopters. Our goal has always been to help these cats move into a secure, cage-free and peaceful space where they can relax and thrive. While kittens are super cute, an adorable little kitten will be an adult in the blink of an eye and are often adopted quickly. Kittens are wild cards, you don’t know how big they’ll get or what their personality will ultimately be. Adult cats are great for first time owners, families with young children, seniors - oh wait – everyone! But if you have your heart set on a kitten, we have kittens in our foster homes. Check out our Cats page to see all cats and kittens in foster.

Q. Can we drop off a stray cat at The Dancing Cat?

A. We are not able to take in owner-surrendered or stray cats. If you live in San Jose, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Cupertino or Milpitas, contact San Jose Animal Care and Services for more information on how to re-home your cat or care for stray cats in your neighborhood. We also have information on re-homing pets on our Resources page.

Q. Are the cats stressed out?

A. We have a kitty sanctuary in the back room where cats can go if they want quiet time. We closely monitor the behavior of all of the cats; if a cat seems stressed onsite they will be relocated to a loving foster home. We are always looking for fosters! If interested, please fill out our foster application.

Q. Can we bring our own cat to visit?

A. Sorry, but no! The Dancing Cat is for kitties looking for their forever homes ... your kitty is set!

Q. Can we bring people food into The Dancing Cat?

A. Yes! We welcome and encourage you to bring in your favorite coffee or people snacks.

Q. Can we bring our kids?

A. Yes, children 5 and older are welcome as we feel this is a good opportunity for them to learn how to approach and be respectful to cats. We'll give them a quick lesson in kitty etiquette if you'd like. Due to our limited space and for the comfort of all our guests, we request that children be 5 years or older and must be chaperoned by an adult.

Q. Can we feed the cats?

A. You can feed the cats a small amount of cat treats that we will provide. Just ask!

Q. Do you have free wi-fi?

A. This is Silicon Valley — of course!

Q. Do I need a reservation?

A. We limit the number of guests in the room every hour and thus require reservations. We may be able to accommodate walk-in guests on a first-come first-served basis. Weekends fill up quickly so best to reserve your spot.

Q. Is there parking?

A. The Dancing Cat is located in a residential neighborhood. There is ample street parking at no charge.

Q. Does it smell?

Our volunteers strive to keep litter boxes tidy and fresh for the cats.

Q. Is The Dancing Cat clean?

A. Yes, The Dancing Cat is deep cleaned every morning for the well-being of both people and cats. We keep the litter boxes tidy throughout the day. If you have allergies to cats ... well that can be tricky. You know yourself so we will have to leave your decision to visit up to your own discretion.
